As part of our commitment to reconciliation, Key Assets Australia is once again offering employees the opportunity to choose how they wish to recognise Australia Day. This is the fifth year Key Assets Australia has taken this action.

Through staff and community engagement, our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have expressed to us how proud they are to be First Australians; however, Australia Day holds a different meaning and significance to them. The current public holiday date marks the beginning of a long and brutal colonisation of people and land, as the first British settlers arrived in Australia. This date brings with it a commemoration of deep loss – loss of sovereign rights to land, loss of family and loss of the right to practice culture; the date cannot be seen as anything other than a day of mourning. A collective effort between First Nations and non-First Nations Australians is crucial to confronting the truth of our history and to walk the path of reconciliation.

So Key Assets Australia will support our employees wishing to recognise an alternative holiday to 26 January.

Our diverse society, respect for different perspectives, and unwavering commitment to democracy are what makes Australia a country we’re proud to belong to. We stand for an Australia where every person is valued, their voice matters, and they are free to express their opinions in a safe and inclusive environment.
