Social Worker Lindi started with Key Assets as a Student. Now we grow together
I work with professionals who are all committed to ensuring a better start and future for every young person we support.
I can honestly say I love my job. I work with professionals who are all committed to ensuring a better start and future for every young person we support.
My journey so far
I have been with Key Assets since February 2019. I started out at Key Assets as a student. I initially observed this space and wondered what real difference could be made. What stood out during this time was the team dynamic within Key Assets. I observed this high stress role being performed by professionals with a smile on their face. I thought that maybe this was just the team showing new student manners, as time went on, I came to find that this wasn’t just a team of social workers and other professionals, but people genuinely dedicated to families and children in care. Ensuring the wellbeing of our own team, was also something I have observed at the heart of our Key Assets values. Upon ending my time as a student, I was soon after offered a role in the youth support space. This was where I really started to see the difference in the level of service that is offered and the passion that is at the center of everything we do.
Near to the end of my studies, I had the opportunity to start working on my phd which is focused on children in care. But a position came up for Key Assets and I knew I needed to apply.
I can now see firsthand what can be achieved when there is a caring team behind you.
I now find myself working amongst colleagues, who create a safe environment for all, which ensures that our families have a united team working behind the scenes in a professional and supportive manner.

Key Assets offer so much opportunity for learning and progressing in this field. Our ideas are celebrated and encouraged. There is an inner passion to create real and positive change for the families we support.
A day in the life of a Social Worker.
My role is mostly self-managed under the supervision of my line manager. A typical day may include, visiting carers and the children they care for. During this time, we look at what is working and what we can work on. We can set up small projects, to support our little people feeling safe and to help them to adapt to their new surroundings. We are supporting our families in educating them around their role as carers and offering educational opportunities frequently to offer our individually valued children’s families with the tools they need to offer a safe and loving environment. During an average week there may be training sessions to attend, admin time, supporting my personal projects as the virtual reality lead, part of our wellbeing team, and staying involved with our social media app that connects Key Assets staff from all over.
What to expect from a career at Key Assets
I can honestly say I love my job. I work with professionals who are all committed to ensuring a better start and future for every young person we support. I feel supported by our management team, who check in and stay engaged with what is happening for all of our cases and genuinely take the time to ensure we are supported in our roles. Staff at Key Assets come to work with a positive attitude, I know this is due to the calm and relaxed environment that has been within our team for years.
This is a hard industry to work in unsupported, I believe this is why Key Assets is moving from strength to strength, because we do things differently.
What does foster care mean to me
Foster care is about letting go in many ways. Letting go of what we thought parenting should look like, letting go of working alone to working as part of a team or village, letting go of the notion that something is wrong with a child, as opposed to seeking what therapeutic needs are required to support our little ones to feel safe and accepted.
It is supporting carers as they let go of children that they have nurtured and loved, returning them home to family who love them, home to family and connection of their own.
Foster care is about Agency’s, Carers, department staff and families, working together for the safe return home or a safe working relationship within the care team for long term care.
