National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day 4 August 2021
4 August is a day that is celebrated throughout Australia as National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day. The date, 4 August, was historically used to communally celebrate the birthdays of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were taken from their families at a young age, without knowing their birthday – the Stolen Generations.

The Secretariat of National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care (SNAICC) is the national peak body representing the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families. Their website www.aboriginalchildrensday.com.au … has lots of suggestions for activities, videos and images for how to celebrate Children’s Day.

Some other suggestions for how to celebrate National Children’s Day……
- Go for a bushwalk… find some sticks that would work a ‘clap sticks’; notice the different leaves, their smell; listen for the birds’ songs…
- Set up Camp in the back yard… gaze up at the night sky…feel country
- Do a mural with ‘prints’
